CFAES SEEKING BILL WILLIAMS DIVERSITY AWARD NOMINATIONS
The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences will be awarding the Bill Williams Diversity Award. There are two awards, one for students and or student groups, and one for faculty/staff. Each award is $1,000 along with a plaque and recognition at the Annual Banquet. Bill Williams was co-founder of Glory Foods Inc. His product lines began in the Department of Food Science and Technology, with OSU students actively involved in product development, marketing, and product rollout. From 1992 until his death in 2001, Bill Williams contributed financial support annually to minority students in the OSU College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.

A partnership between The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and the Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES)
The goals of the Veterinary Early Commitment Program for Students Interested in Food Supply Medicine are to:
- Recruit qualified students early in their undergraduate career
- Better prepare students for careers in food supply medicine prior to entry into the DVM program
- Retain students' interest in food supply medicine
- Allow more opportunities for mentoring
- Graduate more DVM's into food supply medicine
- Graduate DVM's who have the skills and knowledge to serve modern food producing animal agribusiness
General information
1. Applicants must be full-time students in the Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University
2. Students will apply during Spring Quarter of their second year in the Department of Animal Sciences.
3. Students will be selected during Summer or Autumn quarter by the selection committee.
4. A maximum of ten (10) seats will be reserved each year for these students
a. When possible, at least one seat will be reserved for a swine-focused student and at least one seat for a poultry-focused student
5. Two alternates will be selected each year.

STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE International Affairs is coordinating four grant opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students looking for scholarships to fund a study abroad program, that have a deadline of Friday (5/9). The various scholarships provide funding between $500 and $1,000 for various short-term and quarter/summer long-term study abroad programs. JULY 1 IS DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR JERSEY YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS
The AJCA Scholarship Program provides financial support for Jersey youth enrolled in colleges or universities or, in some cases, youth seeking hands-on experience in the development and management of Registered Jersey cattle.
Applicants must be a junior or life member of the American Jersey Cattle Association upon submitting their application. A minimum grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) is required to apply for these scholarships. A copy of the applicant's high school or college transcript must be included with the application form.
The largest award is the Russell Malnati Scholarship for Advanced Studies of $5,000. Undergraduate students who have completed at least one-half of coursework credit hours required for a degree in dairy science, animal science (dairy emphasis), large animal veterinary practice, dairy production or manufacturing, or dairy product marketing, and graduate students in those program areas are eligible to apply.
Bruce Richards, a doctoral student in animal nutrition at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, was the 2007 recipient of this award.
The William A. Russell Memorial Scholarship of $1,000 will be presented to a student who will begin a program of study at an accredited college or university in the fall of 2008.
The Cedarcrest Scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student seeking a degree in large animal veterinary practice, dairy production, dairy manufacturing, or dairy product marketing.
The V. L. Peterson Scholarship and Paul Jackson Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to students who have completed at least one year of college or university work.
Also to be awarded is the Bob Toole Jersey Youth Award, which can be used for either college expenses or a well-defined practical experience related to breeding, developing and showing Registered Jerseys. The 2007 winner of the $1,000 award was Jessica Stiles, Boonsboro, Md., who graduated from Virginia Tech this past December.
Residents of Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia who are at least high school graduates, but not older than 36 years of age as of January 1, are eligible to apply for the Reuben R. Cowles Jersey Youth Award. Applicants must state whether the award money will be used for to support their education or to fund a trip to the All American Jersey Show and Sale, the AJCA-NAJ Annual Meetings or other Jersey educational activities. The 2007 award of $950 went to John F. Hoffner, a sophomore at North Carolina State University from Mooresville, N.C.

The American Jersey Cattle Association has made strategic investments in Jersey youth since 1958 when it created the National Heifer Sale to provide annual funding for educational programs and awards. Scholarships are paid from permanent endowments administered by the American Jersey Cattle Association. Contributions to these funds are recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as 501(c)(3) tax deductible charitable gifts.

The project will focus on greenhouse gases (CO2 and methane) emission reduction in dairy farming. Duties will include inoculums collections from fistulated steers, fermentations in bottles and bioreactors, samples analysis using HPLC, gas chromatography, spectrophotometer, etc.
Knowledge and Experience Intern should gain:
At the end of the internship, the intern should gain practical knowledge associated with anaerobic microbiology and biotechnology in our beef and dairy farms.

You can experience this and more by participating in an internship with the Audubon Zoo! This hands-on internship is geared towards college students or recent graduates that are aspiring to become marine mammal trainers. Interns will be exposed to all aspects of the daily care and training of California sea lions. Responsibilities: This internship is designed to give aspiring trainers educational and career experience. Interns will be responsible for a number of tasks throughout the day such as diet preparation, sanitation, exhibit maintenance and cleaning, public presentations, guest interactions, animal observations, and the participation in animal training and husbandry sessions. Depending on your skill level and motivation, your internship can be tailored so that you can get the most of out your time here. Requirements: Candidates must be highly self-motivated, willing to work hard and get dirty, but to also have some fun at the same time. This internship involves heavy lifting of up to 50lbs. 2. A.H. BUD FERBER MARKETING INTERN SUMMARY: AQHA's Marketing and Communications Program reach into all aspects of the horse industry, regardless of discipline. Objectives:
Provides administrative, technical, and policy support to the Director of Legislative Affairs in all aspects of the legislative affairs program. Maintain such relationships with other staff members, industries and vendors as are desirable or necessary in the best interest of NTF and in conformity with NTF objectives and policies.
Work with Director to continue to find new opportunities that are creative, to educate Members of Congress and their staffs on the turkey industry. Includes maintaining relationships with state directors and other members that can enhance our efforts.
Manage, with the Director, all TURPAC activities
Serve as an integral member of the NTF staff, fully-cooperating and coordinating work with other departments.
Responsibilities:
Work with Director of Legislative Affairs to implement department area goals in a timely manner (Legislative and TURPAC committees).
Prepare drafts articles for monthly newsletter
Prepare regular communications to apprise NTF members about the federations legislative activities (Leg, TURPAC, and Executive)
Manage TURPAC and keep up to date records on budget
Complete all FEC and Congressional TURPAC filings at their deadlines
Conduct policy and background research that support legislative objectives (including creating charts, finding statistics, and developing materials that will be distributed on Capitol Hill).
Assist Director in implementing programs that ensure maximum grassroots involvement by NTF members in the federation's lobbying activities

Featuring Mike Vrabel, OSU Student-Athletes, and Coaches! Prizes will be awarded to top 3 men and women finishers, and runners will finish in OHIO STADIUM! A Meet and Greet with Student-Athletes and Coaches and giveaways will be provided with food after the run.

The purpose of the 2nd and 7 Foundation is to help promote literacy throughout central Ohio. Former Buckeyes Mike Vrabel, Ryan Miller, and Luke Fickell felt an obligation to continue their service in the community and help influence kids to practice the basic skills of reading in order to become successful in the future.
REGISTER FOR SPRING LEADERSHIP RETREAT Spring Leadership Retreat, a leadership seminar facilitated by motivational speaker Jonathan Sprinkles, is a program on Saturday (5/17) that will focus on goal setting, collaboration, conflict resolution and leadership. The event is free and open to all members of student organizations but space is limited. Apply online or in person at the Ohio Union by Friday (5/2).
