LOST SILVER IPOD NANO IN BLACK SKIN AND HOUSED IN RED VERA BRADLEY CASE - REWARD OFFERED!
Lost on 2/6/08 around the Animal Science building. The ipod was turned in to Annette Aneshansley in room 110 animal sciences Bldg. Annette did not turn into lost and found so the owner, Masa Doig, was unaware she had it! This ipod was a gift and holds sentimental value!  If you know where the person who found Masa's IPOD, please contact Masa Doig at: 614-292-7453, cell: 859-948-8055, email: doig.8@osu.edu.  A reward will be offered to the person who returns the IPOD!

SIGMA ALPHA HOLDS 30TH ANNUAL FOUNDER'S DAY
Sigma Alpha Professional Agriculture Sorority held it 30th annual Founder's Day in the Ag Admin auditorium on Sunday, Feb. 17. All active and alumni members and their parents were invited. Approximately 50 people were in attendance to celebrate the organization's activities over the past year.

Sigma Alpha also presents a few awards to recognize the work and involvement of its members. Awards were presented for Most Spirited, Outstanding Active and Outstanding Membership Candidate. The Most Spirited Active was given to Jessica Smith, a junior in animal science from Mason, Ohio. The Outstanding Active was Lauren Booher, a graduating senior in animal sciences from Graytown, Ohio. Morgan Hoover, a junior agricultural communications major from Napoleon, Ohio was the Outstanding Membership Candidate. The Alpha Chapter also recognized the members that would be graduating during the upcoming year.

The chapter also presented an award for the Outstanding Alumni. This year's recipient was Jillian Gibson. Gibson is currently employed at Nationwide Children's Hospital as a lab technician and has served as the chapter's advisor the past two years.

Sigma Alpha's alumni chapter also awarded a $500 scholarship in honor of Pamela Blakeslee, an alumnus of the alpha chapter. This year the scholarship was awarded to Tara Milliken, a sophomore agricultural education major from West Alexandria, Ohio.

The 2008-2009 chapter officers were installed at the banquet as well. They are President Amy Wensink, 1st Vice President Jessica Smith, 2nd Vice President Tara Milliken, Secretary Andrea Tholen, Treasurer Catie Wroblewski, Rush Chair Morgan Hoover and Social Chair Tess Jones.

During the event, the chapter also held a silent auction to raise money for their house fund. Over $200 was raised for Sigma Alpha to use on improvements to their Indianola Avenue House.

Sigma Alpha is a professional agricultural sorority that promotes scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship among its members. The sorority was founded in 1978 at the Ohio State University by five women who wanted an alternative to the social Greek sorority system. Since that time, Sigma Alpha has become a national organization consisting of more than 80 chapters, comprised of undergraduate and alumnae members. MEAT INDUSTRY SUPPLIERS ALLANCE (MISA) SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE
In March of 1989, the Meat Industry Suppliers Alliance (MISA) established the MISA Foundation Scholarship Fund.  The purpose of the Foundation is to channel donations, through scholarships, to qualified students expressing an interest in the meat industry.  In the past we have offered (3) $3,000 scholarships.  At a recent meeting of the Foundation directors, the scholarships were increased to (3) $5,000 scholarships.  There is also a brand new scholarship being offered for the Fall, 2008 school year.  The MISA Foundation and SIEMENS will contribute $5,000 each to create one $10,000 scholarship that junior and senior level, as well as graduate students will be eligible for.

Below are the criteria for the (3) $5,000 scholarships. 
1). Candidates must be at least sophomore level undergraduate students in the meat sciences.
2). Candidates must have at least a 2.5 GPA.
3). Candidates must be U.S. citizens. 

Below are the criteria for the $10,000 scholarship.  We will be accepting all interested and eligible applicants at this time.
1). Candidates must be junior or senior level undergraduate students or Masters Ph. D candidates in the meat sciences.
2). Candidates must be students of a North American University.
3). U.S. or Canadian citizenship is NOT a requirement.

FARM CREDIT SERVICES OF MID-AMERICA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Eighteen $2,000 scholarships (one for each region we represent) are awarded each year to customer-members of Farm Credit or their children based on academic record, leadership qualities and community involvement.

Recipients of these Farm Credit scholarships must:
-Be college freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors in good academic standing for the academic year in which scholarship is received.
-Be enrolled at any 4-year college within the U.S.
-Be enrolled in the College of Agriculture, with course work emphasis in agribusiness or economics, or  be enrolled in the College of Business Administration, with course work emphasis in agribusiness, finance, accounting, or economics.
-Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better (preferred).
-Have an agricultural background or work-related experience in agriculture.
-Be members (or children of members) of Farm Credit Services of Mid-America.
-Submit a one- to two-page essay on how they plan to use their major in the chosen career.
-Attend a Customer Appreciation Event to talk about the college program. These events are generally  held in the summer.
-NOT be the child of an employee or member of the board of directors.

University Scholarships: In addition to the Farm Credit scholarships, FCS works with 12 ag colleges throughout Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee. The Ohio Soybean Council Foundation is pleased to announce its new scholarship opportunities available to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing studies related to the application of science and technology in agriculture.
Undergraduate Scholarships: 5 scholarships of up to $3000.00 each will be awarded to students who are Ohio residents, enrolled as full-time students in an Ohio College or University, having attained at least a junior status by the fall of 2008; applicants must be majoring in agricultural science, agricultural engineering, agricultural communications, biochemistry, bioengineering or a related field, and planning a career focused on the application or technology to agriculture; applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in their major field.

This will include working in a slaughter and processing environment to learn various procedures. Communications Intern:  The communications intern reports to the Communications Assistant and the Director of Communications. The intern provides support primarily to these two positions through various tasks and must possess strong writing, analytical and communications skills. Daily, the intern will research, collect, and read media pieces related to the pork industry for the publication titled Pork Daily Intelligence. He or she will also attend meetings and congressional hearings when necessary to take photos and report important information, so a strong interest in public policy is beneficial. Weekly, the intern will write a summary of legislative affair related to the pork industry for the Capital Update publication. The intern will assist in the writing and graphic design of newsletters, brochures and the Web site. The media contact list, membership list and publications lists are the intern's duty to maintain and update. The intern also assists in creating informational packets for NPPC meetings and conferences. This internship opportunity is designed to provide the participant with notable experience, writing samples, the ability to complete a relevant project of interest and develop photography, graphic design and Web site skills.

Job Description: Interns assist in caring for reptiles and amphibians in the Aquarium's exhibits. Duties include cleaning exhibit and back-up tanks, distributing diets, observation, and record keeping.
Job Requirements: Enrolled in an accredited college, pursing a degree in Biology, Zoology, Animal Behavior, Ecology, Environmental Science or a related field. FULL-TIME JOBS

ASSISTANT DAIRY PLANT MANAGER, DAIRY SCIENCE DEPARTMENT, SOUTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY - BROOKINGS, SD 

The candidate will be responsible for processing activities at the university dairy plant while working closely with students, researchers and industry.

Position Description:  The individual will be expected to integrate all research projects within the overall schedule and operations management of the dairy plant. The Assistant Manager will be responsible for the instruction and supervision of student employees in the proper processing and cleaning protocols required for the production of dairy products that meet all applicable state and federal regulations. Responsibility for the day-to-day servicing and maintenance of processing and research equipment will also be expected. The individual will be responsible for supervision, scheduling and training of student employees in both processing and research areas and for inventory control of products, supplies and materials. The Assistant Manager will report to the Plant Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:  A Bachelor of Science in Dairy, Food Science or Microbiology is required; ideally a Bachelor or Master of Science in Dairy Manufacturing. Must have experience in hands-on manufacture of dairy or food products and must demonstrate a level of mechanical aptitude that will allow for proper operation and trouble shooting of all equipment.

Desired Qualifications: Prior experience with research and development protocols and experimental design will be a plus.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

University/Community: SDSU is a land grant institution and the state's largest institution of higher education with an enrollment of approximately 11,700 students. The Dairy Science Department includes undergraduate and graduate programs in dairy production and manufacturing with 11 full-time faculty and over approximately 70 undergraduate students. Facilities in the Dairy Science Department include the Dairy Research and Training Facility with housing for 120 head of lactating cows in a modern free-stall barn and parallel parlor as well as a dairy manufacturing and processing plant located on campus. The plant currently processes approximately half million pounds milk per year into various products. The plant serves as a teaching and research facility for the Dairy Manufacturing program.

SDSU is located in Brookings, South Dakota, a community of approximately 18,000 near the east central border of South Dakota on Interstate 29 and central to a growing dairy industry in South Dakota. The city has an excellent K-12 education system, is accessible to major medical facilities, has an active cultural and social environment, and has numerous lakes and parks within driving distance. It is 50 miles north of Sioux Falls, a city of 120,000.
