4TH ANNUAL CFAES INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the CFAES International Festival for cultural activities, exhibits, entertainment
and lots of food! Attendees will have the opportunity to get a "taste" of the world and experience our College on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 from 3:00-5:00 PM in the Ag Administration Auditorium. 2008 NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR ANIMAL AGRICULTURE ANNUAL MEETING
Animal Care and Well-Being - Facts NOT Fiction
April 1-3; The Westin Indianapolis; Indianapolis, Indiana

Animal science students and veterinary medicine students interested in challenges and issues facing animal agriculture and animal agriculture's response to these  issues  are invited to the 2008 annual meeting of the National Institute for Animal Agriculture, April 1-3, in Indianapolis, Ind. Student may register at a significantly reduced rate $25 for a one-day registration and $75 for the entire three-day meeting. This meeting is an ideal time for animal science and veterinary medicine students to  intermingle  with  producers, animal health and management professionals, animal agriculture extension specialists and other individuals involved in animal agriculture, cattle, equine, goats, poultry, swine, and sheep and to attend an event where all animal agriculture species  come  together. Speakers and meeting attendees will zero in on real issues and perceived issues.  We  will  sort  facts  from  fiction and address issues impacting animal agriculture, the implication of these issues and what is being done or can be done to address the issues.

2008 NONPROFIT CAREER FAIR
The 2008 Nonprofit Career Fair, sponsored by the Arts and Sciences Career Services Office and Project Community, will take place on Wednesday, February 20th, from 9am-noon in the RPAC meeting rooms (second floor of the RPAC). Over 40 nonprofit organizations will be in attendance recruiting for interns, volunteers, and paid staff. "EXPERIENCE OSU FOR A DAY" HOSTS NEEDED
Experience OSU for a Day (EOFD) is a CFAES program providing an opportunity for prospective students to visit campus. EOFD Hosts volunteer to allow prospective high school students shadow them from 9:30 AM-1:00 PM for 1-2 weekdays each quarter. Hosts attend class as usual and are encouraged to show the student around our College campus, take their student to see the Oval, Norton House, Parker Dairy Store (lunch provided for host and shadow). Host volunteer forms are available in 100 AA or by emailing Callie Wells at wells.930@osu.edu


OSU COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE EARLY COMMITMENT PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS INTERESTED IN FOOD SUPPLY MEDICINE
A partnership between The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and the Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES)

The goals of the Veterinary Early Commitment Program for Students Interested in Food Supply Medicine are to:
- Recruit qualified students early in their undergraduate career
- Better prepare students for careers in food supply medicine prior to entry into the DVM program
- Retain students' interest in food supply medicine
- Allow more opportunities for mentoring
- Graduate more DVM's into food supply medicine
- Graduate DVM's who have the skills and knowledge to serve modern food producing animal agribusiness

General information
1. Applicants must be full-time students in the Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University
2. Students will apply during Spring Quarter of their second year in the Department of Animal Sciences.
3. Students will be selected during Summer or Autumn quarter by the selection committee.
4. A maximum of ten (10) seats will be reserved each year for these students
a. When possible, at least one seat will be reserved for a swine-focused student and at least one seat for a poultry-focused student
5. Two alternates will be selected each year.

MEAT INDUSTRY SUPPLIERS ALLANCE (MISA) SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE
In March of 1989, the Meat Industry Suppliers Alliance (MISA) established the MISA Foundation Scholarship Fund.  The purpose of the Foundation is to channel donations, through scholarships, to qualified students expressing an interest in the meat industry.  In the past we have offered (3) $3,000 scholarships.  At a recent meeting of the Foundation directors, the scholarships were increased to (3) $5,000 scholarships.  There is also a brand new scholarship being offered for the Fall, 2008 school year.  The MISA Foundation and SIEMENS will contribute $5,000 each to create one $10,000 scholarship that junior and senior level, as well as graduate students will be eligible for.

Below are the criteria for the (3) $5,000 scholarships. 
1). Candidates must be at least sophomore level undergraduate students in the meat sciences.
2). Candidates must have at least a 2.5 GPA.
3). Candidates must be U.S. citizens. 

Below are the criteria for the $10,000 scholarship.  We will be accepting all interested and eligible applicants at this time.
1). Candidates must be junior or senior level undergraduate students or Masters Ph. D candidates in the meat sciences.
2). Candidates must be students of a North American University.
3). U.S. or Canadian citizenship is NOT a requirement.

FARM CREDIT SERVICES OF MID-AMERICA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Eighteen $2,000 scholarships (one for each region we represent) are awarded each year to customer-members of Farm Credit or their children based on academic record, leadership qualities and community involvement.

Recipients of these Farm Credit scholarships must:
-Be college freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors in good academic standing for the academic year in which scholarship is received.
-Be enrolled at any 4-year college within the U.S.
-Be enrolled in the College of Agriculture, with course work emphasis in agribusiness or economics, or  be enrolled in the College of Business Administration, with course work emphasis in agribusiness, finance, accounting, or economics.
-Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better (preferred).
-Have an agricultural background or work-related experience in agriculture.
-Be members (or children of members) of Farm Credit Services of Mid-America.
-Submit a one- to two-page essay on how they plan to use their major in the chosen career.
-Attend a Customer Appreciation Event to talk about the college program. These events are generally  held in the summer.
-NOT be the child of an employee or member of the board of directors.

University Scholarships: In addition to the Farm Credit scholarships, FCS works with 12 ag colleges throughout Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee. Undergraduate Scholarships: 5 scholarships of up to $3000.00 each will be awarded to students who are Ohio residents, enrolled as full-time students in an Ohio College or University, having attained at least a junior status by the fall of 2008; applicants must be majoring in agricultural science, agricultural engineering, agricultural communications, biochemistry, bioengineering or a related field, and planning a career focused on the application or technology to agriculture; applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in their major field.

FARM CREDIT SERVICES INTERNSHIP PROGRAM - VARIOUS LOCATIONS
The Farm Credit summer internship program is geared toward college sophomores and juniors who are willing to work hard while gaining valuable work experience. FCS provides interns with realistic on-the-job exposure in one of our offices located in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, or Tennessee. Our interns work with our staff to help market, sell, and analyze the financial products we provide to rural America.

MICHIGAN OUT-OF-DOORS CAMP FOR KIDS - CHELSEA, MI
Counselor: Must be at least 18 years of age and possess experience working with children, public speaking, and outdoor skills. The Counselor is responsible for teaching coursework in a safe, responsible and enthusiastic manner, cabin of campers, supervising groups of campers, conducting classes and cleaning duties. Eligible to teach activities such as canoeing, riflery, archery, and fishing with experience and certification. A background check will be required prior to consideration for this position.
Salaries and Benefits: Counselor pay will range from $2,200-$2,400 for the summer, depending on experience, Red Cross, and other certifications. Room and board is included for the eight weeks of camp plus training.
Accommodations: Staff is housed in camper cabins on the weeks assigned. The remaining weeks will be spent in the staff quarters. Cabins are rustic but comfortable.
Daily Schedule: Breakfast at 8:00AM, activities begin following breakfast, lunch is at 11:30AM, and the afternoon activities begin at 1:00PM and run until dinner at 5:30PM. After dinner there is recreation time until camp fire at 8:00PM. Camp fire ends at 9:00PM. Campers are in their cabins with lights out at 10:00 PM.

ADVENTURE EDUCATION CENTER (AEC) - WORTHINGTON, OH
Part-Time AEC Facilitator: Get paid to play! Work with small groups of people of all ages and backgrounds. They are responsible for maintaining safety and well being of participants on our 5 high ropes courses, and/or facilitating groups through the initiatives course, which involves problem solving, cooperation, communication, leadership, and trust building activities. Responsibilities may also include light maintenance work.
Work Schedule: Flexible hours. Approximately 10-20 hours a week from mid-April to late October.
Pay Rate: $12-$15/Hour
Part-Time SuperGames: Responsible for the safety and well being of all participants on or around the SuperGames inflatables, games, and equipment. They must be able to assist in the setup, teardown, and minor maintenance of all activities for each program.
Work Schedule: Flexible hours that vary widely. Approximately 10-30 hours a week from May-September.
Pay Rate: $10-$13/Hour
Event Host: Responsible for hosting outdoor and indoor SuperGames of various sizes. Some of your responsibilities will include loading and unloading trailers, mapping route of travel, calling support staff and assigning responsibilities, driving trucks and hauling trailers. Some general maintenance will be needed. During an event, you will be responsible for the smooth running of a successful event and organization of staff.
Work Schedule: 4-5 days a week, some weekends required, 30-50 hours a week depending on event schedule. Mid-April through late August. 4th of July is a required workday.
Pay Rate: $15+ per hour.
*Minimum Requirements: 21 years of age. Must have clean driving record and able to pass driving rodeo. Some experience driving while hauling trailers preferred but not required. Must have good people skills and professional appearance.

OHIO PORK PRODUCERS COUNCIL - COLUMBUS, OH
The student selected as intern for the Ohio Pork Producers Council (OPPC) will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day activities of the organization. OPPC's mission is to serve and benefit Ohio Pork Producers Council members regardless of size in the areas of member services, legislative and environmental issues, consumer and producer education, and market development. The position will be approximately 40 hours a week from June to September. Some additional hours are required during the Ohio State Fair, July 30 - August 10, 2008.
 
Educational Background: The intern should be majoring in the field of agriculture, communications, education, marketing or journalism; preferably going into their junior or senior year. Knowledge of the pork industry is a plus, but not required.
 
Personal Qualifications: The person should posses excellent public speaking skills, excellent writing skills and be very organized. Applicants should be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently.
 
Primary Responsibilities: The following are areas in which the intern will be responsible:
 
1. Producer Education: Responsible for the development of programs and events which will increase producer participation in the Pork Quality Assurance Plus Program, Take Care and Transport Quality Assurance. Will promote new materials developed for producers by the National Pork Board.  Will handle information requests concerning these programs and will promote programs through written communication, displays and presentations. Will attend the national intern training seminar that is held in conjunction with World Pork Expo. Will man and/or prepare the producer education booth at the Ohio State Fair.
 
2. Communications: Will assist in communication with members and the media by writing press releases and developing media kits.
 
3. Ohio State Fair Pork Food Stands Assistant Manager: Will serve as assistant manager at the Ohio State Fair Pork Food Stands which will entail ordering, handling funds, supervising staff and volunteers, and other general duties. Will assist the manager (Ken Stiverson) in coordinating the day to day operations of the stands.
 
4. Special Events Planning: Will assist in special events planning, including Ohio State Fair Pork Rib-Off, Youth Pork Leadership Institute, Growing Strong Communities, and other promotional events during the summer.
 
Compensation: The intern will receive at least $4,000 in the form of a stipend or scholarship. The internship also includes an expense-paid trip to World Pork Expo in Des Moines, IA for the training session.

GENEX, FIELD MARKETING INTERNSHIP - VARIOUS LOCATIONS
The objective of the field marketing internship program is to provide college students with an opportunity to explore a career as an A.I. professional by gaining hands-on work experience in A.I. field marketing and service, as well as exposing students to the varied career options available in the A.I. industry.
*Internship positions available in New England, New York, and Pennsylvania within the Field Marketing Division.
Duties Include (But not limited to):
-Provide A.I. support to local Breeding Program Specialists while working daily with out breeding teams.
-Carry Out accurate estrus detection and record herd reproduction information into on-farm computers or record systems as needed.
-Work closely with local Genex representatives to meet individual member's needs for A.I. service, genetic selection, and other herd management requests.
- Be responsible and able to work without close day to day supervision, demonstrating skills and professionalism of a full-time Genex representative.
- Complete necessary daily paperwork to allow for accurate and timely billing of Genex members.
- Carry out other activities as assigned; spend a day with a local Area Sales Representative, be available to participate as needed to assist with MAP program and Set program.
Education Opportunities: Successfully complete Genex basic two-week training program in Shawano, Wisconsin and a two-week field training program. Participate in monthly Genex sales meetings. Travel throughout the area interacting with dairy producers and seeing firsthand the variety of different farm practices at work on today's modern dairies.
Qualifications:
-Must be currently enrolled and at least junior status at an accredited institution.
- Business or animal science major.
- Minimum grade point average of 2.5/4.0.
- Experience working with cattle (dairy or beef).
- Have a clean driver's license and a reliable vehicle.
- Work flexible days, hours, and from different locations throughout the internship.
Salary: $1400 per month ($700 bi-weekly).
Expenses: Travel reimbursement, motel expenses and meal allowance when away from home.

Working for NPPC: The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) is the voice of the pork industry on legislative and regulatory matters in Washington, D.C. It represents more than 67,000 pork producers, who in 2006 marketed 57 million hogs with total gross receipts of $14 billion. Communications Intern: The communications intern reports to the Communications Assistant and the Director of Communications. The intern provides support primarily to these two positions through various tasks and must possess strong writing, analytical and communications skills. Daily, the intern will research, collect, and read media pieces related to the pork industry for the publication titled Pork Daily Intelligence. He or she will also attend meetings and congressional hearings when necessary to take photos and report important information, so a strong interest in public policy is beneficial. Weekly, the intern will write a summary of legislative affair related to the pork industry for the Capital Update publication. The intern will assist in the writing and graphic design of newsletters, brochures and the Web site. The media contact list, membership list and publications lists are the intern's duty to maintain and update. The intern also assists in creating informational packets for NPPC meetings and conferences.
This internship opportunity is designed to provide the participant with notable experience, writing samples, the ability to complete a relevant project of interest and develop photography, graphic design and Web site skills.

Internship period: June through August, 2008
Location: Washington, D.C.
Stipend: $500/week and reimbursement of Metro rail Transit expenses
Beyond the experience, the NPPC internship program offers a competitive stipend suitable for the intern to live while in Washington, D.C. JURO, the Journal of Undergraduate Research at The Ohio State University, is looking for qualified OSU students and faculty to work on both the editorial and production staff of its first-ever online publication. Open positions include section editors, faculty production and section advisors, student reviewers, features editors, copyright manager, production manager, design managers, public relations managers, copy editors, and many other occupations necessary for both a print and online journal. JURO seeks to enhance undergraduate education by launching a university-wide journal that will provide students with a venue for publishing their work in a peer-reviewed medium, which is specifically designed for undergraduate researchers at OSU.
